Position Overview

The Rail & Logistics Coordinator coordinates activities of transportation operations to obtain optimum use of processes, procedures, equipment, facilities, and Human Resources. Coordinates and validates Rail Master Data requests for the business unit departments as needed. This role will also serve as a liaison to the centralized Master Data Governance team. The position is 100% remote based out of your home office in B.C.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with all Class I and shortline railroads and improve overall service
  • Supports transportation availability for all logistical needs
  • Supports transportation emergency storm response
  • Reports on 3rd party performance, carrier sourcing, and performance optimization
  • Supports the accurate creation of shipments and freight routes to customer destinations
  • Contributes to business development strategies and special projects
  • Contributes to company transportation decisions, exploits cost-saving opportunities for logistics
  • Collaborates to negotiate and publish transportation rates for third party carriers
  • Supports and develops a close working relationship with all transport carriers and has a thorough knowledge of their operations including strengths and weaknesses
  • Supports leveraging all functional support groups to creatively optimize efficiency, ensuring that customer commitments are kept and the implementation of distribution solutions that meet company financial, risk and growth objectives
  • Reports on rail car pipeline, provides input on rail car usage, track & trace, investigates and disputes demurrage charges, shipment configurations and scheduling from plants to ensure efficient movement and off-loading of stock on required locations
  • Supports North America locations with vacation coverage
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.

    A.) in logistics or a combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 5 years of rail experience
  • Ability to negotiate with 3rd party carriers
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals and able to effectively and concisely communicate changes with team members
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Problem-solving: ability to be ready with solutions when problems arise, and/or be ready to anticipate problems before they happen
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to question from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to work overtime
