About The Role
Incident Support Unit (ISU) Operative Level 1 – located on the M25 in Leatherhead. Responsible for efficient service delivery of the M25 DBFO Network through incident response, hazard clearance, network maintenance and other duties as required.
Working Arrangements4‑on, 4‑off shift pattern, rotating equally between 4 day shifts and 4 night shifts.
- Day shifts: 06:00–18:00 or 07:00–19:00, each including two 30‑minute breaks.
- Night shifts: 18:00–06:00 or 19:00–07:00, each including two 30‑minute breaks.
- Reasonable travel around the M25 network and between depots.
- Travel to meetings, training and works sites outside the normal operational area.
- Participation in out‑of‑hours call‑out rotas such as winter maintenance.
- Provide the initial response and arrange specialist advice at the scene of road‑related incidents, hazards and collisions in a bronze incident command capacity.
- Perform cyclical maintenance, carriageway repairs, soft estate maintenance (e.g., grassland maintenance), street cleansing, litter picking, sign maintenance, safety fence repairs, boundary fence repairs, civil engineering or minor remedial building tasks.
- Implement traffic management in line with CPS policies, method statements, risk assessments and industry standards.
- Provide accurate written and verbal communication in reports and records.
- Use mobile communication/data devices to input data for record purposes.
- Undertake routine vehicle checks and maintain up‑to‑date driving records in line with legislation.
- Take due care of CPS property, including tablets, vehicles and radios.
- Raise awareness of safety issues affecting the network and report observed risks.
- Check that traffic management signs, equipment and materials are carried on vehicles and are in working order.
- Participate in the winter service rota as required.
- Carry out any additional tasks as instructed to maintain the area of responsibility.
- UK driving licence, minimum category C (LGV Class
2). - CSCS Operative Card.
- UK driving licence, minimum category CE (LGV Class
1). - Driver Qualification Card.
- 12AB certification for static temporary traffic management on high‑speed roads and all‑purpose trunk road network.
- FISS card.
- Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Highways Maintenance.
- Traffic Management Foreman (TMF) qualification or Lead Traffic Management Operative (LTMO).
- Successfully pass the security check as part of the recruitment process.
- Successfully pass the annual driving licence check.
- Successfully pass the pre‑employment drug & alcohol test and any additional tests requested.
- Successfully pass the company’s health screening programme.
