Senior Civil Engineer/Project Manager - Public Works
Role
Description:
Huitt-Zollars, Inc has full-time opportunity for a Civil Engineer (Eng IV) with five+ years of experience and will be a registered Professional Engineer for our Ontario, California office. This role will work as a Civil Engineer in our Public Work Practice Area. This position will provide leadership, guide business development and project management on local Houston (and beyond as needed) engineering projects.

Duties:
- Serve as Civil Engineer in the development of design schematics, construction plans, specifications and estimates
- Coordinate with EITs, designers and drafters
- Review shop drawings, perform field observations, and facilitate the construction administration
- Support project proposals, scopes, budgets, and manage execution and tracking of projects
- Complete projects within client specifications, budgets and schedules
- Coordinate online meetings, preparation of meeting agendas, and distribution of meeting minutes
- Will work on all types of projects, but the focus will be on site development. This will include design development from concept design phase through completion of construction documents
- The site development will include but not be limited to grading, floodplain mitigation, drainage, drainage detention, paving, and utilities. The individual will coordinate with other disciplines within HZI and well as sub‑consultants including Architecture, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, etc. throughout the design phase
- The individual will also coordinate with and provide direction to engineers‑in‑training, CADD technicians, and project support staff to prepare the project documents (drawings and technical specifications) for permitting and bidding
- The individual will provide construction administration support for such activities as contractor submittal reviews, contractor requests for information, review of contractor monthly invoices and provide recommendations for invoice approvals, participation in construction progress meetings, occasional site visits as necessary
- The individual will also provide support for the development of scopes of work, labor hour estimates, and project scheduling for new projects. On occasion as directed, individual will communicate directly with clients
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertakes Project Manager responsibilities for major projects ($2.0+ million annual billing).
- Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
- Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on‑schedule, quality, satisfied client).
- Contributes to successful delivery and performance of projects.
- Cultivates relationships with clients and holds strong relationships with clients.
- Understands, follows, and enforces Huitt‑Zollars' business process including weekly rhythm.
- Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and is responsible for assigned portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategy.
- Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
- Actively engages and participates in the training, coaching, and mentoring of junior staff.
- Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current.
