Position Overview:

RENOGY X is looking for a detail-oriented, organized Permit Coordinator to manage the preparation, submission, and tracking of all permit packages required for residential and commercial solar installations. This role is critical in ensuring projects are approved and interconnected efficiently, allowing installations to proceed on schedule. The ideal candidate is highly organized, enjoys navigating complex regulatory environments, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for leading a variety of activities including, but not limited to:

  • Compile and review technical plan sets, including site plans, electrical single-line diagrams, and structural calculations for permit submissions.
  • Submit permit applications to local building departments (AHJs) and track their progress through the approval process.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for city plan checkers, inspectors, and utility representatives.
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of AHJ requirements, permit fees, and expected turnaround times across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Manage the utility interconnection process, ensuring timely "Permission to Operate" (PTO) for completed installations.
  • Coordinate with design engineers to address corrections or rejections from city plan reviewers.
  • Track permit and inspection fees, ensuring they stay within project budgets and maintaining accurate records.
  • Support operational improvements, standard permitting processes, and best practices for project approvals.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field crews to ensure smooth project execution.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma required;
    Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Sustainability, or a related field is a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience in solar permitting, construction permitting, or related project coordination.
  • Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), local building/fire codes, and utility interconnection requirements.
  • Experience with express permitting processes across multiple AHJs is a significant plus.
  • Proficiency with CRM software (Salesforce, Hub Spot), project management tools (, Asana), and PDF editing software (Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to explain technical details to non-technical staff and customers.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail; able to manage multiple active permit applications simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to learn, take feedback, and continuously improve.
Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based work with occasional on-site visits to support permit documentation or inspections.
  • Regularly sit, stand, or walk short distances during office or site work.
  • Must be able to climb stairs daily.
  • Will lift, push, or pull up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
  • Use hands frequently to handle documentation, computer equipment, and permit materials.
  • May occasionally lift or carry documents, plans, or small equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Must comply with all safety procedures when visiting project sites.
  • Able to adapt to flexible work schedules to meet permitting deadlines and coordinate with city offices or utility providers.
  • Occasional travel to project sites, city offices, or utility facilities may be required.
