Location Profile
Located in Ontario, CA, Summit Machine specializes in the rough and finish machining of super alloys for the aerospace, commercial, defense, power, and petroleum industries. Complex components include nickel base, titanium, stainless steel, aluminum and carbon steels with parts ranging in size from 2" OD to 120" OD.
Position SummaryThis position will be on VTL machine with +/- .003 tolerance requirements. Must know how to work with aerospace alloys.
Shift ScheduleMay support 1st shift (4:15am - 12:45pm, Mon - Fri), 2nd shift (12:15pm - 8:45pm, Mon - Fri), 3rd shift (8:15pm - 4:45am, Sun - Thu) operations, or a split shift depending on business needs. The selected individual will train on 1st shift for approximately 3 months, or until able to demonstrate an ability to perform the job with minimal intervention.
Shift premiums will apply upon schedule change if applicable.
Level 3 Machinists can, with little or no assistance, operate 3‑5 axis CNC machines and lathes to produce complex aerospace parts demonstrating advanced cross‑training flexibility, including first part run and full machine recovery. They can complete complex setups on 3‑5 axis machines, apply advanced blueprint and GD&T reading to complex production inspection processes, edit programs and write simple programs to make tooling, and troubleshoot complex parts.
Generally, 4‑6 years of experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction.
- Support and comply with the company's Quality System, AS9100, Cardinal Rules of Quality, Cardinal Rules of Safety.
- Execute the production schedule.
- Ensure the area has the materials and supplies to meet production needs.
- Complete orders that meet quality standards within the required timeline.
- Ensure machines are running efficiently and effectively.
- Ensure operators follow work instructions and processes.
- Provide daily updates through PCC
03 or other tools. - Submit work orders to Maintenance.
- Implement process improvements.
- Attend company meetings.
- Read and comply with work instructions, set‑up sheets, and checklists.
- Enter production information into the ERP system in a timely manner.
- Accurately record and report hours worked.
- Complete Production Incident Report for all red tags as soon as possible (no later than before the end of the shift) and notify a Supervisor.
- Complete all other work duties as assigned.
- Read blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and set‑up requirements.
- Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
- Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
- Use overhead cranes and/or forklifts to move parts and rings.
- Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, and edit computerized machine control media.
- Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out‑of‑tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
- Verify conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
- Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
- Confed with other personnel to resolve machining problems.
- Clean and maintain machine and tools; grind tools and accessories.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports; speak effectively before supervisors or employees of the Company.
- Calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
