Overview
The Tournament Operations Manager is responsible for working with the Director of Competitions to conduct SCPGA professional tournaments. In addition to the assistance and management of tournaments, other functions of this position include managing tournament staff, scheduling tournaments, generating pairings, purse management, acting as on-site sponsor and facility liaison, supporting membership, and assisting at assigned SCPGA events. The individual in this position shall act on behalf of the Southern California Section of the PGA of America (SCPGA) and report to the Director of Competitions and the Executive Director/CEO.
PositionSummary

OrganizationThe Southern California Section of the PGA of America was established in 1924, and today is comprised of over 1,800 Golf Professionals working at over 500 facilities within the Section. The mission of the Southern California Section (SCPGA) is the purpose of the PGA of America, to promote the enjoyment and involvement in the game of golf and to contribute to its growth by providing services to golf professionals and the golf industry.
ExperienceRequired
- Minimal 2 years experience in tournament operations or golf related background preferred
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- PGA Member or Associate preferred
- Proficiency with the Rules of Golf
- Knowledge and utilization of Blue Golf tournament software preferred
- Excellent communication and customer service
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask
- Self motivated with strong work ethic and ability to work independently
- Willingness to travel and work long hours, including weekends and/or overnight
- Provide support and/or leadership with SCPGA competitions
- Coordinate each tournament from the initial planning stages through completion:
- Create, prepare, and print all collateral materials related to the tournament (scorecards, cart signs, local rules, etc.)
- Pre-event travel to host facility to establish course set-up and proper course markings.
- Communicate with the host site, partners, staff, and rules officials
- Confirm payment of course fees, lodging, etc.
- Ensure proper set-up and breakdown of tournament signage and equipment.
- Award purse and Play of the Year points as needed
- Create and maintain Blue Golf tournament pages for all events
- Assist with tournament registration and cancellations
- Implement, supervise, and manage tournament schedule, administration, and day-to-day operations for Women, Senior, and APA Divisions.
- Assist in the planning and operations with Section owned Open Championships and PGA TOUR qualifying events.
- Act as liaison for the Section Chapters, including coordinating with Chapter Tournament Representatives for all tournament needs
- Ensure the tournament portion of the SCPGA website and Google calendar is current.
- Build and schedule tournament-related emails for Section, Divisions, and Chapters.
- Generate tournament re-caps and provide material to the Communications Department and/or Partner Relations Department
- Assist with annual operating plan and related budgets as well as capital expense
- Support Section members and associates
- Assist with administrative duties as requested
- Promote the Association and the PGA of America
The job requires an occasional amount of travel throughout Southern California and requires the employee to have the ability to operate a car safely. The employee must be able operate a vehicle that can transport tournament/event supplies, have a valid driver's license, and be able to work contiguous days with flexible scheduling over a seven-day week. The employee must be willing to work weekends, early mornings, and evenings as assigned.
Benefits- Base salary range of $72,000 - $80,000 commensurate based on qualifications and experience
