The Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store and for general operations and supervision when acting as Manager on Duty. Key responsibilities include opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, maintaining a friendly and easy‑to‑shop environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and maintaining a clean work area.
Essential FunctionsMaintaining Safe & Secure Environments:
- Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors in everything you do.
- Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment for everyone.
- Immediately correct or report any unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership.
- Responsible for security of building including entrance/exit control, Electronic Article Surveillance devices, Cash Office security, armored carrier pick‑ups and register area.
- Remove clutter and ensure safe, clear egress to emergency exits.
- Ensure customer safety including accident prevention, accident reporting and emergency procedures.
- Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service:
- Treat all Customers, Associates and other leaders with respect.
- Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness and professionalism at all times.
- Recognize Associates using Company recognition programs.
Personal and Store Brand:
- Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
- Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with Company Dress Code and ensure all Associates do the same.
- Keep all areas of the Store clean, well‑maintained and merchandised to standard.
- Responsible for daily trash removal.
General Merchandising:
- Ensure recovery, sizing and markdowns are completed to Company standards through teaching, assigning tasks and following up per Company best practice.
- Responsible for receiving merchandise truck when needed and processing all merchandise with a sense of urgency.
- Handle the receipt of all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries and maintain cleanliness and organization of all Stockrooms.
- Help deliver and place merchandise on the sales floor when all merchandise is processed.
- Ensure any back‑stock is secured and processed to Company policy.
- Responsible for merchandising of department including the back stock and for the reduction of loss due to damage.
- Ensure compliance with the monthly presentation guidelines in the assigned area and perform floor moves and signing including promotional signing when needed.
- Perform re‑wraps as needed.
Loss Prevention:
- Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a large customer service presence on the sales floor.
- Safeguard confidential information, cash and credit card information and merchandise.
- Maintain the Public View Monitor (PVM) system.
- Conduct “Code 50” package inspections.
- Execute all Company Best Practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches while working.
Front End Supervision and Operations:
- Ensure Associates are executing to Company standards at the Front End.
- Maintain pace, energy and “presence” at the Front End to expedite customer wait time.
- Train and coach Associates on cash registers, shortage control policies and other Front End procedures to meet friendly and productivity standards.
