The Early Head Start Teacher develops and implements individual and group educational plans for infants and toddlers, designed to promote social-emotional, physical, and cognitive growth appropriate to their development. In each Early Head Start classroom, two Early Head Start Teachers lead child development activities with support from Program Aides and Volunteers. In collaboration with a co-Teacher, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the classroom, ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations, build strong partnerships with families, and maintain high program quality.

You will report to the Center Director or Manager of Education & Inclusion. As a frontline representative of Save the Children, you will ensure the safety and security of children and families in your care, upholding the agency’s values of Accountability, Ambition, Collaboration, Creativity and Integrity.

• Collaborate with a co-Teacher to develop and implement individualized and group lesson plans and activities that promote all developmental areas and prepare children for preschool.
• Guide and facilitate daily classroom activities and, when appropriate, field trips.
• Set up equipment and materials to create a safe, developmentally appropriate learning environment.
• Provide responsive caregiving to support relational learning and include individualized and small group activities within a flexible schedule.
• Plan and conduct conferences (minimum
  2) and home visits (minimum
  2) to keep parents informed about their child’s progress, routines, activities, and behavior.
• Maintain accurate records on paper and in designated online systems; protect confidentiality of children and families.
• Plan, conduct, and document observations, assessments and screenings; maintain an ongoing portfolio for each child with weekly observations and work samples.
• Collaborate with Program Aides and Volunteers to develop their skills in planning and carrying out classroom activities.
• Ensure active supervision to protect children’s safety; use the playground as an extension of the classroom and keep it safe.
• Assist children during meals to model social and self-help skills and healthy eating practices.
• Meet the physical needs of children, supporting health and personal routines (resting, brushing teeth, diapering, toilet habits).
• Engage families in their child’s education and provide opportunities for classroom involvement and home activities.
• Create and maintain an annual inventory of classroom equipment and supplies.
• Work with the Manager of Education & Inclusion to develop and document professional development plans; engage in ongoing professional development to increase qualifications.
• Keep the classroom clean and organized and document in-kind donations as applicable.
• May require staying until all children are picked up by a guardian, as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Minimum of an associate degree in child development, early childhood education or a related degree with early childhood coursework equivalent to a major related to early childhood education, with experience teaching preschool-age children.
