Overview

Join Oceans Behavioral Hospital in Opelousas as a Mental Health Technician PRN Nights. The role supports nursing staff in a therapeutic inpatient setting, providing compassionate care to adults and seniors experiencing anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges.

Essential Functions
  • Adhere to professional standards, policies, and federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Apply supportive behavior and de‑escalation techniques to manage patients with unacceptable behavior.
  • Inventory patient belongings accurately and secure contraband; perform unit safety checks.
  • Comply with universal precautions, infection control policies, and required in‑services.
  • Implement patient care activities under licensed nursing supervision; record vital signs, weights, ADL, intake/output, nutritional monitoring, and dietary restrictions.
  • Assist patients with laundry, meals, bathroom functions, and mobility needs as required.
  • Individualize care activities to age‑specific, disability, and culturally sensitive needs.
  • Document patient observations, vital signs, nutrition intake, and significant occurrences with 100% accuracy and within defined timelines.
  • Communicate task outcomes and follow‑up to nursing staff in a timely manner; coordinate ongoing patient needs with relevant staff.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements Education / Experience

High school graduate or equivalent with CNA certification or at least 6 months of prior bedside, direct patient care experience in a healthcare setting is required.

Skills / Qualifications
  • Read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions; excellent communication skills.
  • Work well with diverse populations and utilize age, disability, and cultural specific knowledge.
  • Maintain good physical and mental health, holding a high sense of personal integrity and empathy.
  • Work under close supervision; complete CPR certification and an Oceans‑approved behavioral de‑escalation program.
