Central Sterile Tech

Under the supervision of the Central Sterile Supervisor, the Central Sterile Technician is responsible for performing assigned duties entailing the decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment throughout the surgery and other departments, including preparation of operating rooms for next cases.

• Operates all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely, prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and supplies according to the parameters of sterilization in accordance with regulatory standards.
• Accurately handles and cares for instruments appropriately, including appropriate selection of cleaning agents.
• Dispenses supplies, equipment, and instruments in the OR, Endoscopy
• Performs related work as required.
• Documents and maintains relevant data and communicates data to appropriate parties.
• Maintains a safe and clean environment.
• Transport Patients and assists with positioning patients in the operating room.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and acts as a patient advocate.
• Participates in performance improvement.
• Approaches situations with distressed patients, families and visitors in a calm, professional manner.
• Performs various requested tasks as directed to maintain the department.

High School Diploma/GED required.

CPR required.

• Current knowledge of clinical practice.
• Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment: copy machine, intercom system, telephones, computer and fax machine.
• Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for adolescent through geriatric patients.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Effectively handles frequent interruptions and distractions.
• Central Sterile Tech experience a plus.
