The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) plays a critical role in delivering comprehensive mental health care to diverse patient populations within a rural health clinic setting. This position involves assessing, diagnosing, and managing psychiatric disorders through evidence-based therapeutic interventions and medication management. The PMHNP collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized treatment plans that promote mental wellness and recovery.

• Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing with specialization as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
• Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state of practice.
• Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or equivalent.
• Minimum of two years of clinical experience in psychiatric or mental health nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Experience working in diverse healthcare settings including inpatient, outpatient, or community mental health clinics.
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and telepsychiatry platforms.
• Strong background in crisis intervention and management.
• Advanced training in psychopharmacology.

• Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments to identify patient needs and formulate diagnoses.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including prescribing and managing psychotropic medications.
• Provide psychotherapy and counseling services tailored to patient-specific mental health conditions.
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive care.
• Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes.
• Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies.
• Maintain accurate and detailed clinical documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and stay current with advances in psychiatric nursing practice.

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner utilizes advanced clinical assessment skills daily to accurately diagnose and treat mental health disorders. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential for building therapeutic relationships with patients and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
