Research Scientist
Responsibilities
- Material Scale‑Up: support synthesis, testing and evaluation of sorbent materials for direct air capture from laboratory to commercial scale.
- Lab Characterization: perform lab‑based characterizations, including CO2 adsorption behavior and chemical stability; support day‑to‑day laboratory activity.
- Material Processing: support milling, drying and analytics such as PSD and resistivity.
- Independent Analysis: work independently to understand sorbent properties and improve analytical methods.
- Validation & Reporting: validate, troubleshoot and clearly document work to communicate with stakeholders and support project goals.
- Education:
apprenticeship, bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or related field. - Availability: 6‑month internship, preferably starting August 2026.
- Lab
Experience:
hands‑on experience in characterization of porous materials (BET, Hg porosimetry, TGA, etc.), adsorption testing (breakthrough, DVS, etc.), wet chemistry and polymer synthesis. - Work Ethic & Style: reliable, motivated, solution‑oriented, concise, cooperative, structured work style.
- Language
Skills:
fluent English;
German or other languages beneficial.

At Climeworks, our six‑month internships offer a hybrid work setup
, giving you flexibility while ensuring valuable collaboration by working onsite at least three days per week
. To maintain fairness, we follow a standardized salary process based on market benchmarks. For our internships based in Switzerland, the compensation is:
- During BSc & MSc: CHF 2 000 per month
- After completion of MSc: CHF 2 500 per month
