The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.”
The RN serves as an advocate for patients/families/caregivers and models a commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance.
- Assesses patient condition during admission and each shift as scheduled, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
- Assesses patient environment for any safety risks and non-compliance with regulatory standards.
- Assesses patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after intervention.
- Identifies signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect and reports any indications to medical provider(s), nurse leader, and/or appropriate agency.
- Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s); documents the administration of care in the patient medical record promptly and thoroughly.
- Administers prescribed medications, monitors patient for therapeutic response, notifies provider, and intervenes when necessary.
- Provides exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests, proactively anticipating and resolving needs.
- Educates patients/families/caregivers about patient medical condition, treatment plan, medications, possible side effects, and follow-up measures; translates complex terminology for complete understanding.
- Teaches patients/families/caregivers about non-medicinal follow-up measures such as healthy diet, exercise, disease prevention, lifestyle changes, and prepares them for self-management.
