Role on the Team
Position Summary:
Incumbent is responsible for all accounting functions such as analyzing, monitoring, problem-solving, preparing and reconciling financial information to reflect the condition of the organization and provide financial and other statistical data to control operations. Responsibility areas encompass the preparation of GAAP financial reports and development of processes with high degree of autonomy to meet internal and external reporting requirements. Acts as professional technical leader with a high degree of expertise in various government accounting principles and will assist in providing support for internal and external audits.
This includes utilizing analytical skills to interpret, audit and investigate transactions for appropriate accounting and reporting. In addition, the individual will collaborate with leaders across the organization as technical knowledge resource and driver of new accounting standard implementation, and provide advice and assistance to UCI Health, UCI Campus and UCOP Leadership. Additional areas include activities relating to developing, implementing and monitoring accounting systems, policies and procedures, and the preparation of journal entries and other accounting records.
- Analyze, monitor, problem-solve and reconcile financial information to support organizational operations.
- Prepare GAAP financial reports and develop autonomous processes to meet reporting requirements.
- Provide support for internal and external audits and advise on accounting standards implementation.
- Collaborate with leaders across the organization as a technical knowledge resource.
- Develop, implement and monitor accounting systems, policies and procedures; prepare journal entries and accounting records.
- Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and knowledge of statutory filing requirements, particularly with the state and the IRS.
- Ability to interpret complex policies and financial standards; analyze complex accounting, financial, and technical data and systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Access).
- Strong customer service skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
- Minimum four years of progressive experience in accounting.
- Working knowledge of Federal, State, University and industry regulations and accounting standards.
- High analytical proficiency, detail-oriented, ethical, team-oriented, and effective written and verbal communication in English.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of UCI’s integrated financial systems and related sub-systems.
- Knowledge of healthcare-related financial systems and/or sub-systems.
- Knowledge of UCI policies and procedures.
- Experience in an academic medical center environment.
- Active CPA license.
