Under the general supervision of the Clinical Manager, incumbents will independently perform a wide variety of technical procedures in Clinical Cytogenetics and Genomics section of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory medicine. Other responsibilities include method development-modification-parallel testing, repair of laboratory instruments, sample processing, reagent preparation, data entry. On a daily basis, incumbents will assess overall workload for any area that needs help.
All Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory Scientists may process specimens, perform waived and non-waived testing without direct and constant supervision, and report results without supervisor or director review for the tests that are within their scope of licensure and for which they have been trained and deemed competent.

Required Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of all relevant sub-specialty area industry, health and safety, federal, and state regulations.
- Skill and ability to perform mathematical calculations to include: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals with and without a calculator to derive results.
- Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
- Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
- Must be willing to testify in court regarding testing activities if subpoenaed.
- Must be able to differentiate variations in color
- Exhibits interpersonal skills to independently convey information with authority, handle highly sensitive matters and interact with high level contacts from other organizations.
