Job SummaryThe Director Technology Platforms & Ops (TPO) is a strategic leader responsible for managing and optimizing the organization's technology infrastructure. This role oversees the design, implementation, and maintenance of IT systems, data center (storage and compute), cloud environments, IT security, and disaster recovery services. The role requires close collaboration with cross‑functional teams both internal and within IT and business units to ensure efficient, reliable, and secure technology solutions aligned with Avangrid business objectives.
The Director TPO plays a pivotal role in shaping the organization's technology landscape, ensuring reliability, security, and scalability.
The Director Technology Platforms & Ops reports to the Vice President of Technology Services.
Key Responsibilities- Oversees the design, deployment, and operations for IT technologies including Database, SAP Basis, Cloud Computing, Storage, Backup, Virtualization, and On‑Prem datacenter.
- Oversees the design, deployment, and maintenance of infrastructure including cloud and datacenters; manage server environments, storage systems, and virtualization platforms.
- Ensures high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
- Evaluates and implements cloud‑based solutions to optimize infrastructure.
- Develops hybrid multi‑cloud strategies that balance on‑premises and cloud resources (AWS, Azure, Nutanix).
- Develops, leads, and operates the Gen AI Avangrid Center of Competence.
- Collaborates with the Avangrid Corporate Security Global Security Office to ensure compliance with security policy and integrate security across all technology towers; responsible for the execution and operation of the Avangrid Corporate Security Program.
- Leads modernization and security initiatives by defining and directing technology programs, managing life cycles, driving automation, and ensuring continuous transformation across all technology domains.
- Manages project portfolios and develops long‑term infrastructure strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Evaluates existing infrastructure, identifies areas for improvement, and plans for future scalability.
- Stays informed about industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation.
- Works closely with the business to perform needs analysis and create synergies between business functions and IT.
- Develops and manages the IT TPO budget, including capital and operational budgeting, and implements continuous transformation and efficiency programs to enhance resource maximization.
- Leads a team of highly technical IT professionals across all technology areas, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment, and provides mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
- Manages vendor relationships, negotiates contracts, monitors service levels, and ensures compliance with vendor SLAs.
- Champions best practices in a high‑volume dynamic environment; ensures the enterprise can support new technology and maintain high service levels, creating a sustainable, compliant IT environment (ITIL, SOX, NERC/CIP compliance).
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
- Strong technical mindset with comprehensive knowledge of managed technologies including Nutanix hyper‑converged infrastructure, software‑defined storage, Citrix thin‑client architecture, and hyperscale cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and AWS.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and project management skills.
- Demonstrated history of exceptional customer service.
- Strong history of managing complex efforts with demanding customers.
- Strong background managing IT technology in a multinational company.
- Working knowledge of the regulatory environment for utility companies, including NERC CIP and SOX requirements.
