Temp Workers Compensation Claims Supervisor – Inter Med Cost Containment Services

Summary: Reports directly to the Claims Manager. Under the direction of the Claims Manager, the supervisor is responsible for the overall work product of a claims unit comprised of Claims Specialists who manage assigned inventories of claim files. The unit also includes Claims Assistants who provide clerical support. The role involves coaching and counseling, monitoring work performance, conducting performance evaluations, and instituting corrective action when appropriate.

Responsibilities
  • Complete performance reviews for all personnel within the assigned unit in a timely manner.
  • Provide monetary approval authority up to the assigned authority level.
  • Maintain selected files on a personal diary, including all files reserved over $50,000, all subrogation files, all files with delayed or denied benefits, all files formally assigned to the SIU, and all files with unresolved coverage issues.
  • Provide all required information, reports, records, logs, and other information to clients as instructed by the claims handling contract.
  • Offer ongoing advice, mentoring, coaching, counseling, and performance feedback to all personnel in the unit.
  • Ensure all claims are handled in accordance with applicable statutes and company rules.
  • Address personnel issues quickly and decisively, keeping the manager informed of the need for or progress of corrective actions.
  • Exhibit a professional image and helpful attitude on behalf of the company.
  • Identify and develop at least one individual to serve as a supervisor backup.
  • Perform quarterly audits of 10% of each Claims Specialist’s open inventory to validate accuracy, completeness, and identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain a spirit of teamwork and cooperation between claims personnel and other departments.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the California Labor Code as it pertains to workers’ compensation claims and related legal requirements.
  • Handle other duties and tasks as directed by the Claims Manager.

Education And/Or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.

A.) from a four‑year college or university; or one to two years of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination.

Five or more years of progressive technical claim experience, demonstrating a high degree of judgment and discretion, capable of providing adequate guidance on complex claim cases and negotiating settlements effectively.
