Temp Workers Compensation Claims Supervisor – Avon Risk
Job Summary: Reports directly to the Claims Manager and supervises a unit of Claims Specialists and Claims Assistants. The role involves coaching, counseling, monitoring performance, ensuring compliance with company standards and California Labor Code rules, conducting performance evaluations, and instituting corrective action when necessary.
Key Responsibilities- Complete performance reviews for all personnel in the unit.
- Exercise monetary approval authority up to the assigned level.
- Maintain selected claim files on a personal diary (e.g., high‑value, subrogation, denied or delayed benefits, SIU‑assigned, unresolved coverage items).
- Provide required information, reports, logs, and records to clients as per the claims handling contract.
- Offer ongoing mentorship, coaching, counseling, and performance feedback to unit personnel.
- Ensure all claims comply with statutes and company rules.
- Address personnel issues promptly and keep the Claims Manager informed.
- Project a professional image and a helpful attitude on behalf of the company.
- Identify and develop at least one individual to serve as a supervisor backup.
- Conduct quarterly audits of 10% of each specialist’s open inventory to validate accuracy and identify process improvement opportunities.
- Foster teamwork and cooperation between the claims unit and other departments.
- Maintain knowledge of the California Labor Code as it relates to workers’ compensation claims.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the Claims Manager.
- Five or more years of progressive technical claims experience, demonstrating judgment and discretion.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor staff.
- Strong understanding of California Labor Code and workers’ compensation regulations.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.
- Capacity to manage multiple priorities and maintain compliance with company standards.

Creates implementation plans, communicates changes effectively, builds commitment, and evaluates transition results.

Includes staff in planning, offers performance feedback, develops skills, and fosters quality focus.
