UCI Health’s hematologic oncologists provide expert consultation and treatment for a wide range of cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, as well as solid tumors such as colon, breast, and prostate cancers. Patients receive comprehensive care at the UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute‑designated comprehensive cancer center in Orange County. We also offer the only adult hematopoietic stem‑cell transplant services in the region, eliminating the need for patients to travel long distances for life‑saving treatment.
YourRole on the Team
The Nurse Practitioner II will work within the Hematology/Oncology Division’s HSCTCT Program to provide advanced nursing care for patients receiving autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplants and cellular therapy. Under the supervision of Medical Directors and the NP Supervisor, the practitioner will participate in the comprehensive care of inpatient patients, coordinating multidisciplinary treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients, families, the inpatient team, and referring physicians.
This position may perform:
• Function within the scope of practice, including acute or critical care, routine inpatient care, chronic stable medical conditions, and procedures such as bone marrow biopsies and lumbar punctures.
• Provide patient care across age groups in all UCI Health licensed settings and affiliates.
• Maintain standards of care for their specified patient population and demonstrate self‑direction, accountability, and quality improvement.
• Credential and obtain privileges through Medical Staff prior to the first working day.
• Report performance and receive feedback from supervising physicians and managers.
Population Served:
Adults receiving autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplants and cellular therapy (e.g., chimeric antigen receptor T‑cells).
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the program and UCI Health System.
- Ability to exercise diplomacy and flexibility in interacting with physicians, nurses, and other personnel.
- Demonstrated customer‑service skills.
- Clear communication of medical information to diverse audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong writing skills for medical reports, laboratory data, and progress notes.

- Strong foundational skills in specialized medical equipment and procedures.

- Advanced knowledge of oncology, symptom management, and palliative care principles.
- Proficiency in comprehensive assessments, diagnosis, and management of complex cancer‑related symptoms.
- Familiarity with supportive care interventions such as pain, fatigue, nausea, anxiety, depression, and cachexia.
- Understanding of treatment‑related toxicities across chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation.
- Skilled at counseling patients and families on prognosis, goals of care, and advance planning.
- Current, active, unrestricted California Registered Nurse license.
- Current, active, unrestricted California Nurse Practitioner license.
- Current, active, unrestricted Pharmacy license and DEA registration.
