Join to apply for the Manager, Computational Research, Computer Vision role at CHOC Children's.
Work Location:
Orange, California.
Work Shift:
Day – 08hrs (United States of America).
The Manager of Computational Research works closely with Research Computational Science (RCS) leadership to strategize and develop computational solutions to support research and implementation of research findings by providers, researchers, and other associates. Ensures proper communication of the computational science needs of the organization and assists RCS leadership in the development of computational strategies to meet the needs. Requires a hands‑on approach in the application of computational approaches for data analyses and prediction of events of interest.
Provides direct support to CHOC Research and other departments and groups in the organization interested in research or process improvement that can be fostered through computational reasoning. Assists RI leadership in the development of computational solutions encompassing new algorithms, improvement of existing algorithms, and analysis of data from the electronic medical records of patients. Supports a collaborative environment required to attract, motivate, train, retain, and develop computational scientists in pediatric medicine.
Provides mentorship and technical guidance to junior research computational scientists.
Minimum $147,514;
Midpoint $195,458;
Maximum $243,402.
Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.
ExperienceRequired: Minimum four years of experience in the computational and data sciences with a minimum of two year in a health system. Experience in the application of advanced statistical algorithms and computational and data science methods in the analyses of medical data including generalized linear models across a wide range of statistical distributions, time series analyses, longitudinal data analyses, convolutional neural networks, and sequence models.
Familiarity with Casual Inference or Bayesian Statistics is also required through prior coursework, publications, or informal studies of these methods. Previous experience with high‑level programming languages such as SAS, R Statistical Programming Language, SPSS, C/C++, Python, and Tensor Flow, Keras or PyTorch for time series and other sequence data prediction. Experience with SQL programming and data preprocessing for research studies are also required.
Previous participation in research during academic training, internships, or prior job experience that resulted in one or more peer‑reviewed publications.
Preferred: Prior peer‑reviewed publications in Pub Med‑indexed journals including first and last authorship positions. Experience publishing in top tier journals such as Pediatrics, Journal of Pediatrics, The Lancet journals, Nature journals, and other top 10 journals in pediatrics or medicine in general. Experience deploying statistical learning algorithms in the electronic medical records of patients or similar experiences outside of medicine.
EducationRequired: Doctorate in the computational and data sciences including statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, and statistical genetics or similar.
Specialized SkillsRequired: Ability to apply advanced statistical algorithms and computational methods in the analyses of medical data including generalized linear models across a wide range of statistical distributions, time series analyses, longitudinal data analysis, and analyses of unstructured data. Expected to be comfortable with the wide range of statistical learning algorithms and development of simulations for empirical statistical analyses using a statistical programming language or C/C++.
At least 5 of the following: R Statistical Programming Language, SPSS, SAS, Python, C/C++, SQL, Tensor Flow, Keras, PyTorch, and Apache Spark and Hive.
