Role & Responsibilities

In This Role, You Will (Utilized on an as‑needed basis across gas and electric projects)

  • The Safety Observer ensures site safety compliance by monitoring construction activities, conducting safety briefings, and supporting incident reporting. This role supplements the project team during critical phases requiring dedicated safety oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review contractor Health and Safety Plans (HASP) and support safety inspection processes.
  • Conduct site safety audits and facilitate safety orientations for all personnel and visitors.
  • Ensure compliance with daily safety briefings and escort requirements for site visitors.
  • Track and report safety violations, coordinate corrective actions, and verify closure with contractors.
  • Collaborate with the PM and SHEQ teams to investigate incidents and develop CAR/PARs.
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA and Customer‑specific safety protocols.
  • Support emergency response and storm restoration activities as needed.
Qualifications / Requirements

To succeed in this role, you bring:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical T&D construction or maintenance.
  • Knowledge of electric line work, substations, environmental regulations, and safety codes (NEC, NESC, OSHA).
  • Prior experience with switching/tagging procedures and construction compliance monitoring.
  • Excellent observation and communication skills; detail‑oriented and proactive.
Certifications
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Background check clearance (per IUSA policy)
  • First Aid / AED certification
  • OSHA 30‑hour certification
