Position Overview
South Carolina State University’s Miller
F. Whittaker Library seeks an enthusiastic, innovative, and service-oriented librarian to fill the role of Electronic Resources/Reference Librarian
. This position involves managing electronic resources, troubleshooting access issues, collaborating with external vendors and campus IT, and supporting faculty and students through reference services and instruction. The librarian will monitor industry trends and actively engage in professional development through training, literature reviews, and participation in university committees and meetings.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary contact for external service providers (publishers, database vendors, consortia, content providers, and technology suppliers) to maintain access and resolve issues.
- Collaborate with the IT department and database vendors to manage EZ Proxy server access and configuration.
- Investigate and resolve electronic resource access problems in a timely manner.
- Assist with electronic resources license agreements, including managing renewal processes and accessibility.
- Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies that enhance access to library resources.
- Proficiency in COUNTER Release 5 (R5) standards to gather and interpret vendor-supplied usage statistics.
- Offer reference and information services, including library instruction to students and faculty.
- Serve as a liaison to academic departments, supporting research and curriculum, accreditation, and related accountability needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of experience in higher education
, preferably in library systems and operations. - Experience with the use and administration of Lib Guides and Ex Libris
