The Ignition Engineer will design and maintain industrial control systems using the Inductive Automation Ignition platform. This role emphasizes backend development, scalable SCADA architecture, and integration with manufacturing systems. The engineer will work cross-functionally with IT, Engineering, and Operations to deliver secure, high-performance, and maintainable solutions.
Responsibilities- Design and implement SCADA applications using Ignition Vision and Perspective modules.
- Develop intuitive and responsive user interfaces for industrial operations.
- Write modular Python/Jython scripts for gateway events, tag change scripts, and project logic.
- Ensure code reusability and maintainability across projects.
- Design relational database schemas and write optimized SQL queries.
- Implement efficient data logging and reporting mechanisms.
- Interface with PLCs, HMIs, and external systems using OPC-UA, MQTT, and RESTful APIs.
- Ensure seamless communication between control systems and enterprise platforms.
- Lead system commissioning activities including FAT and SAT.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues; provide documentation and end-user training.
- Develop standardized templates, UDTs, and project structures for multi-site deployment.
- Collaborate with data science teams to deploy models and pipelines using tools like Pandas, Num Py, and Snowflake.
- Enable real-time and historical data access for analytics applications.
- Utilize Git or Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) tools for version control and collaborative development.
- Maintain robust deployment workflows and rollback strategies.
- Prepare systems for data extraction, labeling, and analysis.
- Support initiatives in predictive maintenance, process optimization, and anomaly detection.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (ABET-accredited preferred).
- 3+ years of hands-on Ignition development (Perspective, UDTs, scripting)
- Strong Python and SQL proficiency (e.g., Postgre
SQL, SQL Server) - Manufacturing/SCADA experience with PLC integration (e.g., Rockwell)
- Solid troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills
- Willingness to travel for commissioning and support
