Job SummaryLeads all operations and activities of inpatient and outpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, acute rehab center, Health Plex and wellness, to include staff evaluations, student affiliations, quality assurance, acquisition of necessary supplies and equipment in both the main hospital and the off‑site locations. Also responsible for sports medicine service line and program development.
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s Degree in a healthcare and/or rehabilitation discipline required.
- A degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech Therapy preferred.
- Licensed or eligible to be licensed in the state of South Carolina as a therapist.
- Two years’ experience as a staff therapist and three years’ experience providing supervision preferred.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.
Primarily works in a hospital, office, and/or fitness environment. Requires judgment and action on short notice, may experience pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries, must be able to travel, and is occasionally subjected to long, irregular hours and interruptions.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesInpatient and Outpatient Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Acute Rehab Center, Health Plex and Wellness.
Financial ResponsibilitiesPrepares and monitors departmental budgets.
Essential Functions- Participates in the development of departmental goals and organizational structure.
- Selects, trains, orients and provides overall supervision of assigned personnel.
- Develops, recommends and implements operating policy, systems and procedures.
- Reviews and evaluates performance and recommends personnel actions such as merit increases, promotions and disciplinary actions.
- Supervises, justifies, monitors and adheres to the departmental budget both for staffing and financial expenditures.
- Addresses a multitude of staff, customer complaints and suggestions and brings them to resolution.
- Responsible for developing new revenue streams related to rehabilitation services for MUSC.
- Ensures patients are properly evaluated and treated and that care is appropriately documented.
- Performs other miscellaneous and related duties as assigned.
- Growth and strategic planning of the sports medicine program.
- Oversight of Inpatient Acute Care Rehab Unit operations and therapy.
Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, talk and hear. Must be able to lift or exert energy up to 10 pounds 25% of the time, up to 25 pounds 50% of the time, and up to 50 pounds 25% of the time. Must have adequate vision and color vision as described.
Mental RequirementsMust possess the ability to read, analyze and interpret complex scientific, clinical or business information, respond to sensitive inquiries or complaints, write persuasive correspondence, speeches and articles, present information to executive management and large public groups, handle complex mathematical concepts, and define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Age CompetenciesThis position primarily interacts with all age groups and provides direct patient care. All staff members must demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related needs of the persons in the assigned work area.
