The Main Operating Room is within a level three trauma center. There are 9 OR suites which cover all surgical specialties, to include Trauma, Ortho, ENT, GU‑GYN, Robotics, General, Podiatry, Ophthalmology and Urology. The nursing teams consists of 75% Registered Nurses and 25% Certified Surgical Technologist. RN’s are trained to both scrub and circulate surgical procedures. The Main OR is a busy and dynamic nurse driven department that provides cutting‑edge technology to the citizens of SC.

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal‑directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results.

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift:

• 4 x 10‑hour shifts: (6:45a – 5:30p)
• 5 x 8‑hour shifts: (6:45a – 3:30p)

This position does have an on‑call requirement and is dependent on department need.

Provides circulating and/or scrub nurse services in the operating room during surgical procedures and assists the surgical team as needed in any other capacity according to established process.

• Graduation from accredited school of nursing. Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.
• Current RN license in the state of South Carolina.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
• Experience in scrubbing and circulating in the operating room is preferred.

Regularly exposed to the risk of blood‑borne diseases, contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. May be exposed to patient elements including varying and unpredictable situations. Must be able to handle emergency or crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.

No direct supervisory responsibilities but does give direction to nursing assistants.

• Prepares the patient for scheduled procedures to assist in patient assessment.
• Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to the appropriate personnel.
• Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to assure optimal patient care.
• Assists physicians with examinations, procedures related to direct patient care. Has knowledge of all equipment, procedures and can instruct and precept personnel.
• Writes initial nursing histories, assesses patient conditions and develops individual care plans for patients in the OR.
• Demonstrates sensitivity to patients’ comfort and privacy and maintains a safe, therapeutic and comfortable environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.
• Orients, trains and instructs assigned personnel.
• Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives and maintain good employee objectives.
• Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording of patient medical records maintaining all required reports, records and statistics.
• Performs other miscellaneous and related duties as assigned.
• Have knowledge of ADRN standards and practices.
