Overview
(Orangeburg Maintenance) Assists Encroachment Permit Engineer in performing duties such as field inspections for work being done under an encroachment to ensure compliance with department policies and standards. Must communicate regularly with applicants about process of work and adherence to department specifications and standards.
Responsibilities- Perform inspection on contracts to include asphalt repair, concrete repair (sidewalk, curb and gutter, catch basins, etc.), guardrail and fence repair, mowing, right of way clearing, etc.
- Verify quantities completed so that correct payment can be made.
- Ensure contractors are finishing work as specified in the contract.
- Assist in measuring, compiling, and/or adjusting quantities for maintenance operations as a part of the 6-Year Total Maintenance Plan.
- Meet with Resident Maintenance Foreman on a weekly basis to establish goals for maintenance operations to obtain and establish contracts where needed to ensure completion of one-sixth of the Total Maintenance Plan for the year.
- May be required to assist maintenance crews during emergency operations such as inclement weather.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
Physical DemandsThe physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
