Shelburne, ON. Compensation: $90,000 - $95,000 per year. Work Model:
Hybrid (In Office Tuesdays & Thursdays).
Ice River Sustainable Solutions is looking for a Cost Accountant to join our growing Finance team. This role will play a critical part in supporting manufacturing operations through cost analysis, inventory management, budgeting support, financial reporting, and operational decision‑making.
Working closely with plant leadership, operations, supply chain, and finance teams, you will provide valuable insights into manufacturing performance, identify cost‑saving opportunities, and help drive operational excellence across our business.
This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a manufacturing environment and enjoys partnering with operations to improve financial visibility and business performance.
What You’ll Be Doing- Maintain and support product costing, standard costing, and cost updates within the ERP system.
- Analyze manufacturing costs including labour, materials, overhead, freight, waste, yield, and production efficiency.
- Prepare and review cost variance analyses against standard costs, budgets, forecasts, and prior periods.
- Investigate significant variances and collaborate with operations to identify root causes and corrective actions.
- Support month‑end close activities, including inventory, costing, accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations related to inventory, cost of goods sold, and manufacturing expenses.
- Support inventory valuation, cycle counts, reconciliations, and annual physical inventory processes.
- Partner with plant leadership to review operational performance and identify financial risks and opportunities.
- Conduct financial analyses related to pricing, margins, labour planning, waste reduction, and operational improvements.
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting activities for manufacturing operations.
- Develop and maintain plant‑level reporting, dashboards, and key performance indicators.
- Review bills of materials, labour standards, routings, and overhead assumptions.
- Support capital project analysis, cost savings initiatives, and ROI evaluations.
- Assist with internal and external audit requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve costing processes, reporting accuracy, controls, and financial visibility.
- Post‑secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong experience with cost accounting, standard costing, variance analysis, inventory accounting, budgeting and forecasting, operational financial analysis.
- CPA designation or active CPA enrollment is considered an asset.
- Experience supporting manufacturing operations and plant leadership teams.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing cost drivers and operational metrics.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working within ERP systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Competitive salary of $90,000 – $95,000.
