General Accountant
Shelburne, ON (Hybrid – Tuesdays & Thursdays in Office)
$70,000 - $75,000 per year
Ice River Sustainable Solutions is growing, and we're looking for a detail‑oriented and motivated General Accountant to join our Finance team. Reporting into Finance leadership, this role will support day‑to‑day accounting operations, month‑end close activities, reconciliations, government remittances, and financial reporting support across multiple business entities. This position is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a fast‑paced environment, thrives on accuracy, and is looking to continue building their career within a growing Canadian organization.
WhatYou'll Be Doing
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries.
- Support month‑end and year‑end close activities, including schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Complete account reconciliations and maintain accurate working papers across multiple companies and programs.
- Prepare and support government remittances including GST/HST, QST, sales tax, recycling remittances, and other required filings.
- Assist with government reporting requirements and surveys.
- Record daily banking transactions and support bank reconciliations.
- Provide backup support for banking and other routine finance functions.
- Assist with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activities, including invoice review, coding, billing support, collections, and account follow‑up.
- Review general ledger activity and investigate discrepancies or unusual transactions.
- Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation.
- Support internal and external audit requests through schedule preparation and document gathering.
- Assist with financial reporting and analysis as required.
- Collaborate with departments across the organization to ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within accounting processes and internal controls.
- Perform other accounting and administrative duties as required.
- Post‑secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing, multi‑entity, or fast‑paced business environment.
- Experience with journal entries, account reconciliations, month‑end close activities, working papers, government remittances, and AP/AR support.
- CPA enrollment or active pursuit of a CPA designation is considered an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with professionalism and discretion.
