THE
OPPORTUNITY

The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our elementary teaching team for the following opportunity:

Position Details: 1 Year Term - Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing– 0.5 FTE

Location: Itinerant position. May be required to report to travel to a variety of schools and sites within the Upper Grand DSB. A valid driver's licence and vehicle are necessary for this position.

Work Schedule: TBD

Salary Range: $52,974.00 - $ per annum; salary grid rate is based on QECO rating and teaching experience; annual salary is prorated based on FTE; grid rate effective September 1, 2026

Required Qualifications:

  • Member in good standing in the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Special Education Part 1
  • P/J or J/I qualified
  • Additional Qualifications as Teacher of the Deaf
  • Experienced, successful Special Education teacher and classroom teacher
  • Demonstrated ability to teach in ASL

Date: September 1, 2026

End Date: June 30, 2027

Reporting to the Principal in charge of Special Education Accessibility, the Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing works directly with students with a hearing loss and provides assistance to staff regarding the development and implementation of programs to address the needs of students with a hearing loss. Other duties and or/work locations may be assigned.

Characteristics:

  • The demonstrated ability to:
  • Build rapport with staff, students, parents, and community agencies
  • Provide leadership in the area of programming for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Plan and lead in-services for staff
  • Work with teachers, school administrators and parents to provide appropriate programming
  • Liaise with community agencies, other boards and the Ministry of Education
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Assets:

  • Experience working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Experience working as a member of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Assistive Hearing Technology
  • Working knowledge of Google Read and Write
  • Working knowledge of IEP Engine
