Family Transition Place is seeking Shelter Relief Counsellors to provide opportunities to enhance social service skills on an as-needed basis. The role supports day, evening, overnight and weekend shifts at the Emergency Shelter for women and their children in Orangeville, Ontario.
OverviewRelief Counsellors are an important component of Family Transition Place’s services and programs. They provide crisis line response and support, one-on-one and group counselling, information and referral to legal, medical, housing services and other community resources, administrative tasks such as record keeping and intake procedures, and routine facility maintenance and security procedures.
Responsibilities- Crisis line response and support
- Supportive one-on-one and group counselling
- Information and referral to appropriate legal, medical, and housing services and other community resources
- Completion of administrative tasks i.e., record keeping, intake procedures, reports
- Routine facility maintenance and security procedures
- Post-Secondary Education in the Social Services field
- Understanding of violence against women and children issues
- Crisis intervention and problem solving skills
- Strong supportive counselling skills
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of community resources and how to access them
- Basic knowledge of facility management
- Ability to work both cooperatively as a team member and independently with minimal supervision
- Skill in the use of a personal computer for word processing
- Vulnerable Sector Records Check
- Reliable transportation
As-needed basis within a rotating schedule of day, evening, overnight and weekend shifts. Overnight shifts may be required and applicants must be available on short notice.
SalarySalary: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
