Position: Deputy Sheriff, Recruit (Entry-Level)

Overview

Deputy Sheriff, Recruit (Entry‑Level) – Clackamas County. Entry‑level law enforcement position in the County sheriff’s office.

Responsibilities
  • Assist and train in investigations, gathering evidence and taking statements.
  • Assist and train in patrolling, enforcement of traffic and criminal laws.
  • Learn procedures for preparing detailed reports necessary for investigations, crime prevention and prosecution.
  • Assist in arrest procedures, booking, transporting prisoners and patients under custody.
  • Serve subpoenas and warrants of arrest.
  • Answer public inquiries regarding laws, ordinances and regulations.
  • Appear in court as a witness and assist in education and safety presentations.
Qualifications
  • 21 years of age by date of employment.
  • High school diploma, GED or bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Clean criminal record (no felony convictions).
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Must pass the Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT) and Frontline written/video exam.
  • Must pass a background investigation, drug test, medical exam and psychological evaluation.
  • Willingness to be fingerprinted and file fingerprints with the State.
  • Must be legally able to possess a firearm.

  • Hourly salary: $37.048958 per hour.

Application Process

Clackamas County accepts only online applications. Required steps: ORPAT (ORPAT results must be received before the close date), Frontline written/video exam (passing score 65 in all sections) and transfer scores to the County by the close date. Applicants with a bachelor’s degree or higher must upload a transcript. All applicants must submit a Statement of Personal History (SPH). Complete background investigation, drug test, medical exam and psychological evaluation.
