Overview
Surgical Technician, Open Heart Surgery, 40 hrs, days. Onsite. Oregon City, OR 97045.
Participates with the Health Care Team in delivering quality health care to patients in a manner which reflects Healthcare Permanente's mission, vision, and values while supporting the Labor Management Partnership (LMP) principles and practice. Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills with a caring, courteous, flexible, supportive, respectful, open-minded, appreciative attitude that is committed to a team environment. The Surgical Technologist performs in the scrub role during surgical procedures and coordinates other activities with other OR professionals.
EssentialResponsibilities
- Practice standards of performance: comply with shift, unit and organizational policies and procedures including reliability and attendance standards; monitor and take corrective action to prevent recurring absences; return promptly from breaks and schedule them to provide adequate coverage; restrict personal business to non-patient care areas during break times; comply with Time Keeping Policy; stay informed of organizational policies and current information;
participate in unit Quality Assurance Programs; maintain current knowledge and skill base with commitment to continuous learning; utilize professional communication techniques; maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational records (HIPAA). Promote collaboration and professional interaction with the health care team; promote professional conduct and department standards of behavior; attend in-services; participate in staff meetings; review information posted in the communication notebook. - Assessment Standard of Performance: communicate to maintain continuity of care; interact professionally with patients, families and staff; obtain and apply knowledge for population-based and culturally sensitive care; participate in pre-operative briefing and time-out; provide continuous reassessment during the intra-operative period.
- Planning Standard of Performance: plan setup based on procedure type; provide age-appropriate care through education and experience.
- Implementation Standard of Performance: initiate measures per protocol for intra-operative care; apply aseptic technique; manage sterile packs and supplies; maintain a well-organized sterile area; anticipate team needs while observing sterile technique; ensure patient safety intra-operatively; assist with body positioning; inspect instruments for contamination; perform sterile core activities and prioritize duties such as cart preparation, restocking, and assisting with OR needs; assist with emergency measures;
coordinate with the Circulator for next cases; initiate and facilitate room turnovers; participate in reprocessing.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology.
- Licenses, Certifications: Basic Life Support required at hire;
Surgical Technologist Certificate required at hire. - Additional Requirements: Knowledge of sterile core area; sterile technique; OR procedures and equipment; dexterity with hands; strong interpersonal skills; good judgment and discipline; ability to follow instructions.
- Two to five years of scrubbing experience in all surgical procedures in inpatient or ambulatory OR settings.
- Ability to rotate through sterile core areas.
- Experience cleaning and reprocessing instruments, stocking supplies, and preparing case carts.
40 hours, days. Onsite at Oregon City, OR 97045.
Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun 6:30am to 5:00PM.
