Job SummaryThe Medical Assistant (CMA) will provide exceptional and compassionate customer service to patients and visitors in a patient‑centered medical home (PCMH). They will handle clinic tasks according to established procedures and protocols, ensuring a seamless experience and delivering quality care.
EssentialJob Duties
- Participate in pre‑visit procedures: scrub patient charts, verify labs, update results, obtain records, and huddle with provider.
- Prepare exam rooms with appropriate equipment.
- Greet and room patients in a professional manner.
- Perform patient work‑up: vital signs, reason for visit, health history, demographics, screenings, and allergy verification.
- Address overdue health maintenance and gaps in care to achieve quality metrics.
- Prepare patients for examination, procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries.
- Assist the provider with in‑office procedures and sterile techniques.
- Observe and report patient signs or symptoms.
- Communicate expected wait times to patients and providers.
- Stock, pre‑p, and disinfect exam rooms between visits.
- Prepare instruments and equipment for autoclave after each use.
- Accurately enter patient information into the electronic health record (EHR).
- Administer medications and authorized vaccines under supervision.
- Administer IM, , SC injections, perform EKGs, respiratory testing, urine/fecal specimen collection, phlebotomy, capillary blood collection.
- Run and handle quality‑control specimens, report proficiency testing, manage lab supply inventory.
- Provide patient education and after‑visit summary (AVS).
- Respond to emergency situations, dispose of biohazardous materials, and maintain standard precautions.
- Actively participate in continuous process and quality improvement workflows, committees, and training of new team members.
- Assist at other clinics as business needs require.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited medical assistant program.
- Experience or training as a Medical Assistant preferred.
- Experience in primary care or family medicine preferred.
- EPIC or other EHR experience preferred.
- Fluency in Spanish highly preferred.
- Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT, or AMCA.
- Active BLS certification required.
- Take and record vital signs; perform CLIA‑waived lab tests.
- Basic medical terminology knowledge.
- Work in fast‑paced environment.
- Professional communication skills.
- Compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and NHC policies.
- Knowledge of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and hazard communications.
- Multitasking between front and back‑office duties.
- Telephone handling and EPIC EHR proficiency.
- Attention to detail in data entry.
- Proficient use of MS Office Suite.
- 40‑hour weeks with variable hours.
- Exposure to toxic chemicals and bodily fluids.
- Moderate to loud noise level based on patient volume.
- High patient volume creates stressors.
- Travel to other locations as needed.
- Lift 20‑50 pounds, use full body motion, stand or sit for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for safe performance of techniques.
- Read, listen, speak clearly to patients.
- Use computer for extended periods of time.
