Certified Medication Aide (Healthcare)

Follow the policies and procedures of the facility governing the administering of medications to residents.

  • Note and report errors in the administration of medications.
  • Assist in developing and implementing procedures or programs to identify medication errors, understand their causes, and prevent them.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as forms, charts, and reports as required.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with nursing staff, physicians, the Medical Director, and pharmacists.
  • Report resident complaints or grievances to the Director of Nursing Services.
  • Participate in facility inspections and surveys conducted by authorized government agencies.
  • Engage in Quality Assurance programs and facility committees related to medication safety and performance.
  • Prepare, administer, and document oral and topical medications accurately and safely, following physician orders.
  • Verify medications brought in by new residents with the attending physician or pharmacy.
  • Follow policies on medication destruction and proper documentation.
  • Ensure medications are properly labeled and charted.
  • Document and remove discontinued medications as per facility procedures.
  • Report and document medication receipt errors, including error reports signed by witnesses.
  • Manage medications for transferred residents or when medications are discontinued.
  • Observe and verify medication administration, noting any refusals or reactions, and report them promptly.
  • Verify resident identity before medication administration.
  • Measure, record, and report vital signs accurately.
  • Follow procedures for residents self-administering medications.
  • Understand common medical abbreviations, symbols, and terms related to medication administration.
  • Participate in continuing education to stay current and maintain certification.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident health information and report any violations or unauthorized access.
  • Perform all tasks according to policies, procedures, and supervisor instructions.
  • Collaborate with other staff to ensure quality nursing services.

Ensure compliance with all legal and ethical standards for resident care and privacy.
