Job Description & How to Apply Below
We're a family of three closely held businesses looking for one seasoned bookkeeper to run the books for all of them: a commercial electrical contracting company, a pole barn construction company, and a small real estate investment company. If you like variety and know construction accounting inside and out, this is a rare chance to be the person who keeps the whole back‑office running.
And you won't be doing it alone: this position comes with a dedicated assistant to help carry the workload.
- Health insurance
- Paid time off
- Power Works (commercial electrical contracting): progress billing, change orders, job costing, reconciliation, payroll through ADP, taxes, and field crews who buy materials for projects and turn in receipts. Busy and hands‑on.
- PW Pole Barns (construction): the same construction‑style accounting: progress billing, job costing, and field receipts to code and reconcile to the right project. Less volume than Power Works and hands‑on.
- Real estate investment company: a small entity with far lighter, less time‑intensive bookkeeping, maybe a few hours a week.
- Keep separate sets of books for all three companies in Quick Books Desktop: A/P, A/R, bank and credit card reconciliations, and month‑end close
- Run payroll in ADP for a team of roughly 15–20 employees: processing, tax filings, and year‑end
- Prepare and track progress billing and change orders so billings match contracts
- Track job costing by project, so we always know where each job stands
- Collect, code, and reconcile field receipts and purchases to the correct job and company
- Handle subcontractor and vendor management: 1099s, W‑9s, certificates of insurance, and lien waivers
- Support HR for a small team: onboarding, I‑9s, PTO tracking, workers, comp reporting, and benefits administration
- Direct and delegate to your assistant (receipt collection and coding, data entry, filing, and routine follow‑up) so you can focus on the higher‑level accounting
- Produce clear financial reports for ownership for each company
- 10+ years of bookkeeping experience, with a strong background in construction or contracting
- Quick Books Desktop experience is required. You're comfortable managing multiple company files. (Contractor edition a plus)
- Hands‑on ADP payroll experience
- Solid understanding of progress billing, change orders, retainage, WIP, and job cost reports
- Experience with commercial electrical contracting and/or real estate bookkeeping is a plus
- Familiarity with Oregon payroll requirements (Paid Leave Oregon, workers comp, benefit fund, transit tax) is a big plus
- Strong attention to detail, and comfort working independently and juggling priorities across more than one business
- Professional, discreet, and dependable. You'll handle sensitive financial and employee information.
- $36.00/hour
- A dedicated full‑time assistant to help support you
- Full‑time
- Benefits: PTO, health insurance (after 60 days), retirement (after 2 years), paid holidays
- A small, stable team where your expertise is valued and your work makes a difference
PW Pole Barns and Power Works are equal opportunity employers.
