Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator III

Wastewater Treatment Facility Operators operate and maintain the Wastewater Treatment Facility collection system pump stations, storm stations, seepage station and perform other related work as required. May also operate and maintain satellite Wastewater Facilities. An Operator III provides lead direction to other workers but has no supervisory responsibilities. Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator III's are expected to be able to operate the facility independently on a shift and aid in the training of new and/or less experienced operators.

The classification of Operator III represents the highest level of the series and requires a valid Grade III or higher license. Incumbents in this class are expected to perform their assigned tasks with limited supervision, assigned technically advanced duties and may be assigned responsibility for field direction of assigned crews. Incumbents are expected to know the work functions, act independently, and advise supervisors of needed work and approximate time and materials needed to complete the work.

Incumbents are expected to have proven skills in the operation of all assigned equipment and may also be assigned special projects on a regular, ongoing basis.

Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade is required. Three (3) years of recent, full-time increasingly responsible work experience at a wastewater treatment facility performing the duties of the classification. For full details, please refer to the job description:

• Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
• Valid Grade I or higher CWEA Collection System Maintenance Certificate will be required for all positions in this series within 12 months from the time state or federal mandates require certification.
• Possession of a valid California Grade III or higher Wastewater Certificate issued by California State Water Resources Control Board at the time of appointment.

It is the incumbents' responsibility to maintain a valid California Wastewater Operators Certification and CWEA Collection System Maintenance Certification at required levels.

A City Hall holiday closure has been instituted for the period beginning Monday, November 24, 2025, through Friday, November 28, 2025. City Hall will be CLOSED to the public during this time.
