We have an immediate opening for a GIS Analyst/Environmental Scientist for our Canby, Oregon operations. Our Environmental Department specializes in environmental permitting and compliance management as it relates to the electrical utility construction industry. Our team brings expertise to construction projects in the areas of permitting, onsite inspection and monitoring, erosion and sediment control implementation, mitigation planning, restoration and revegetation, and environmental training.
The GIS Analyst/Environmental Scientist is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of GIS data. Candidates must be knowledgeable with ESRI’s software products. Duties include performing simple data analysis and creation of various maps for incorporation into plans, reports, and/or presentations. The ideal candidate will have a background in environmental science as well, as this position may serve dual purposes.
Candidate must be highly motivated, client-focused, and work well in a professional and team-oriented environment. Candidate must also have the ability to manage a heavy workload and travel as needed. Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational skills, as well as proficiency with MS Office applications required.
- This position will be based in our Aurora, Oregon offices.
- Create maps and graphs, using GIS software and related equipment for distribution.
- Develop GIS projects consisting of vector, raster, and tabular data.
- Update and query database, applying additional knowledge of spatial feature representations.
- Design and deploy web applications for online mapping, field data collection, and interactive data access for stakeholders.
- Follow standard operating procedures and design criteria established by the Department.
- Meet with internal and external clients to define data needs, project requirements, or required outputs.
- Support staff and clients by ensuring access and connectivity, providing technical training, and testing/troubleshooting applications and hardware.
- Conduct Research to locate and obtain existing databases.
- Gather, analyze, and integrate spatial data and determine how best the information can be displayed using GIS.
- Compile geographic data from a variety of sources including field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps.
- Analyze spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports.
- Enter new map data through use of a digitizer or by direct input of coordinate information using the principles of cartography including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography, and map scales.
- Analyze geographic relationships among varying types of data.
- Prepare metadata and other documentation.
- Operate and maintain GIS system hardware and software.
- Other duties may be assigned and may include periodic field work.
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.
- Requires an understanding of GIS, CADD, and database software.
- Practical experience with ArcGIS is required.
- Experience conducting fieldwork using the GPS, coding, and knowledge of utilizing GIS in the electrical utility construction industry is a plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with various levels of staff and personality types.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Strong attention to detail and organization.
- Must be able to work outside and travel, as necessary.
- Must have a valid state driver’s license.
