Job Summary
Recovery Mentors are a critical part of the SUD Treatment Team and work with SUD clients who are attempting to engage in recovery or in early stages of recovery. The majority of clients who are assigned Recovery Mentor services are involved in our intensive outpatient/Day Treatment program; some are waiting for a residential treatment bed or are stepping down from residential treatment into the Day Treatment program.
Recovery Mentors are not counselors or clinicians but provide supports that counselors cannot offer. Working with supervisors, Recovery Mentors design and implement education, referral, and parent components of the program and help facilitate classes, support groups, and group activities. They maintain a personal recovery program and model recovery‑appropriate behavior.
- Participates and provides recovery coaching to people involved with Best Care Treatment Services using the following methods for engagement with clients:
- Makes regular telephone contact, including talking with clients who need support and are feeling prone to relapse; reminder calls for assessments, groups, individual sessions; outreach to clients who missed group or individual services to attempt reengagement.
- Provides client transportation (when approved by supervisor): transporting clients to and from treatment services, detox or residential treatment, and other appointments.
- Provides recovery coaching during activities.
- Makes home visits on a limited basis, with supervisor approval.
- Attends sober support meetings, or other sober activities, in the community with clients.
- Helps monitor and stay connected to clients who are in residential (and detox) to help with reengagement upon discharge.
- Takes individuals or groups of clients to 12‑Step meetings and/or clean and sober activities as appropriate.
- Provides case management services including referrals to resources (e.g., food bank, primary care, education, housing).
- Assists with prep and clean‑up for evening groups.
- Provides individual, couples, and family support.
- Assists clinicians in groups at the office, jail, etc., providing backup in groups and other treatment activities.
- Helps clients develop and connect to non‑using recovery activities.
- Maintains case notes of client contact within agency documentation timelines in the EHR.
- Assists the SUD team with urine drug testing if needed.
- Completes attendance sheets, required report forms, and reports client participation to Supervisor.
- Other related duties as assigned by supervisor or Program Manager.

- Ensures any required certifications and/or licenses are kept current.

- Performs other organizational duties as needed.
- Knowledge of alcohol and drug addiction and detoxification, community resources and recovery programs.
