. This is a contract position anticipated to last 12 months or longer and is available to be fully remote within the contiguous United States.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Applies technical knowledge, insight, reasoning, and decision making to perform civil structural analyses and design of Nuclear Safety‑Related and Non‑Safety‑Related structures. Candidates should possess a strong design background and be proficient in structural concrete and steel analysis and design. The candidate shall be capable of leading technical activities and providing effective technical mentorship to less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities
  • Serves as subject matter expert in civil structural design areas, resolving technical issues, coordinating with interdisciplinary stakeholders, and working with management to identify project impacts.
  • Works on highly complex tasks in multiple and diverse areas, proposing innovative design solutions requiring significant independent judgment.
  • Develops the technical expertise needed to bring advanced technical capabilities in house, as deemed beneficial and strategic for NuScale.
  • Uses structural engineering tools and implements appropriate standards to design Nuclear Safety‑Related and Non‑Safety‑Related structures, including post‑processing analytical results and designing structures for various materials (concrete, steel, etc.).
  • Interfaces with NuScale Licensing in support of domestic and international regulatory efforts.
  • Interacts with other disciplines and structural engineering consultants to coordinate design activities and resolve technical problems.
  • Possesses general knowledge of related fields to function on multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to other staff in support of the team’s technical activities.
  • Develops and reviews requirements documents, methodology documents, design reports, and studies.
  • Maintains strong written and oral communication skills, routinely interacting with contractors and/or regulatory bodies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills, Qualifications and Abilities
  • Education/Certification:

    Minimum bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school; advanced degree preferred. Registered professional engineer license (P.E.) strongly preferred.
  • Experience:

    Minimum 12 years of full‑time, highly relevant experience as a Structural Design Engineer. Requires in‑depth understanding of engineering concepts, principles, theories, strong technical writing, communication, computer and presentation skills, exceptional organization, time management, and ability to manage complex projects with multiple phases.
