Hourly Wage: $24.84 to $30.02, depending on qualifications

Reports To: Ogle County Engineer

Location: Oregon, Illinois

Job Details

As a County Highway Engineering Technician, you will play a crucial role in assisting our team of engineers and professionals in achieving this goal.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineering staff to assist in the planning, design, and analysis of county and township highway projects.
• Assist in the preparation of engineering drawings, plans, and specifications for construction and maintenance projects.
• Serve as Resident Technician on roadway and bridge construction projects. Provide support during construction projects, including monitoring progress, verifying compliance with plans, and addressing any issues that may arise.
• Conduct materials sampling and testing in accordance with IDOT specifications.
• Collaborate with other departments, local government agencies, and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination.
• Review permit applications for overweight and oversized loads, driveways and utility installations.
• Utilize computer‑aided design (CAD) software and other technical tools to create accurate and detailed drawings.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• Valid Driver's License
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate construction sites.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Successful completion of a background check.

Preferred

• Familiarity with transportation engineering principles and practices.
• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field a plus.
• Proficiency in computer‑aided design (CAD) software and technical tools.
• IDOT Inspection Certifications a plus (Aggregate, Concrete, HMA, Documentation, etc.)
