Acumen is partnering with the Associated Builders and Contractors Association - Pacific Northwest (ABC) to identify their next CEO and President – a dynamic, mission‑driven leader who believes in an inclusive contracting philosophy and can unite open‑shop contractors, policymakers, and workforce partners around its mission. ABC is also deeply involved in supporting the next generation of builders and contractors through their highly regarded apprenticeship program.
The CEO and President serves as a direct liaison to the Board of Directors, ensuring the delivery of impactful services to members. In this role, the CEO and President actively advances and champions the Board’s initiatives and objectives.
The Associated Builders & Contractors’ national organization has 67 chapters, more than 23,000 members, and represents a wide range of construction firms. The CEO and President will be responsible for leading the PNW chapter.
In addition to their apprenticeship program, they offer ongoing trainings and education in both hard and soft skills. The organization advances mental health and suicide prevention by providing educational programs and resources.
The CEO and President provides strategic leadership for all operational functions of ABC PNW, including stewardship of annual budgets and achievement of year‑end financial objectives. In this capacity, the CEO fosters the growth and engagement of chapter membership by consistently delivering value and maintaining open, ongoing communication, including state and local lobbying activities to support its mission.

Key Qualifications- 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in senior management or executive roles, preferably within a non-profit, association management, or construction‑related business organization.
- 5+ years of experience managing direct reports.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is a plus.
- Passionate about maintaining and augmenting the success of a nonprofit association for a close‑knit industry of aligned professionals.
- Demonstrated experience or familiarity with the construction, contracting, building, or related trade sectors (roofing, electrical, development, etc.) – a plus.
- Organized and pragmatic leader.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable with public speaking and being the “face” of the organization.
- Action‑oriented and driven.
- Aligned with the “open‑shop” philosophy of the organization.
- Experience managing a budget effectively.
- Strategic and analytical thinking.
- Savvy in governmental affairs (a plus).
- Ability to inspire and empower others.
- Oversee all facets of the ABC PNW, understanding the mission, vision, and bylaws of the ABC and the Charter of the Board of Directors to further the objectives of the Association.
- Encourage, develop, and promote the building and construction industries.
- Promote confidence and goodwill within the building and construction industries and between these industries and the public.
- Promote and make available to Membership the various programs organized by the National Association.
- Drive accountability for annual budgets and year‑end financial goals.
- Ensure the well‑being of this not‑for‑profit 501(c)(6) in collaboration with the Executive Committee.
- Ensure growth and support of the PNW Chapter Membership, maintaining the existing base as well as attracting and retaining new Membership.
- Oversee, develop, and implement strategic value‑added programs.
- Oversee programs including apprenticeship, member education, safety and benefit programs to provide service and value.
