About Vooks 📚

At Vooks, we bring storybooks to life like no one else, with subtle animation and deliberately paced narration that mimics a parent or teacher reading aloud. Highlighted read‑along text helps kids connect what a word sounds like with what it looks like, and original music and sound engages without overstimulating. We exist to nurture a love of reading, spark imagination, and help every child grow into who they are meant to be—building creativity, confidence, and character along the way.

We care deeply about who kids become, and every story we share is part of that journey.

Families rely on Vooks for calm, safe, literacy‑building screen time. With a durable and engaged user base, we’re entering our next chapter: expanding our content, deepening our experience, and building a platform that can scale with our ambition.

Why This Role Matters ⭐️

This is a rare opportunity: to be a core technical voice on a product that's already proven and loved by families, but is poised for its next chapter of growth and impact. You won't just be executing someone else's roadmap. You'll collaborate directly with our product and engineering leadership to shape what we build and how we build it. You'll have real agency, genuine influence on technical decisions, and the chance to see your work make a tangible difference for kids around the world.

We're a small, purpose‑driven team looking for someone who wants to build alongside us—someone who cares deeply about quality, takes pride in their craft, and is energized by the idea of using their skills to support literacy and learning.

What You’ll Do 💪

As a Senior Full Stack Developer
, you’ll be a hands‑on builder as well as a core technical leader. You’ll own and evolve a key area of our stack (web, mobile, or backend—based on your strengths), while also mentoring others, setting direction, and strengthening engineering practices.

  • Own, maintain, and improve a key portion of our full‑stack codebase, while collaborating across the entire system
  • Design and evolve scalable systems that grow with our user base and content footprint
  • Lead efforts to reduce technical debt and improve system stability
  • Write clean, testable, maintainable code with an emphasis on long‑term scalability
  • Collaborate with product and design to deliver thoughtful, user‑centered features
  • Work collaboratively with other developers and help grow a high‑quality engineering culture
  • Serve as a technical point person between Engineering and the Director of Product & Design
  • As needed, represent Vooks in external partner conversations with technical clarity
  • Champion best practices in coding, review, testing, and release
Technical Strengths
  • 5+ years of full‑stack experience with production systems
  • Experience with React (bonus for React Native, Expo)
  • Experience building subscription and billing flows (at a minimum, Stripe; Revenue Cat a bonus)
  • Able to architect and maintain scalable, high‑availability systems

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience building and maintaining production systems.

You care about building something meaningful, not just functional.

You’re energized by:

  • Supporting literacy, learning, and positive screen time
  • Writing thoughtful, ethical, intentional software
  • Working with people who care deeply about what they’re building
  • Having an ownership and quality mindset: you care deeply about the details, write code you’re proud of, and always leave things better than you found them.
  • Mentors teammates and leads by example
  • Advocates for maintainability, simplicity, and clean architecture
  • Can clearly explain tradeoffs to non‑engineers
  • Communicates comfortably in external partner conversations
Bonus Points For➕
  • Experience in a business‑to‑consumer product environment
  • Tan Stack / React Query experience
  • Familiarity with modern state management and shared component libraries
  • Experience across both web and mobile platforms
  • Prior work in edtech, media, or literacy‑forward products
  • QA automation or test infrastructure experience

We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health coverage, a 401(k), and generous paid time off, and we’re building a high‑ownership team focused on quality, craft, and long‑term impact. If this sounds appealing to you, let's connect!
