Summary
Performs welding and fabrication tasks to ensure the production of high-quality products. The Welder works in a fast‑paced environment, requiring attention to detail, mechanical knowledge, and the ability to work efficiently. This role offers the opportunity to work with a variety of materials and techniques while contributing to the success of our organization.
Responsibilities- Performs fusion welding on aircraft and ground support equipment to a qualified Welding Procedures Specification (WPS)
- Performs structural fusion welding on aerospace parts and components per the requirements of specifications as prescribed by Engineering Drawings and Work Orders.
- Welds a wide variety of materials such as aluminum, chromoly, 304 and 321 stainless steel.
- Determines the sequence of welding in order to prevent or reduce the amount of warp to the weld, designs and fabricates weld holding fixtures as necessary to perform individual welding projects, maintains weld records.
- Performs fabrication tasks, such as cutting, bending, and assembling metal components.
- Uses a variety of welding processes, including GTAW/Pulse welding, to produce high‑quality welds.
- Reads and understands engineering drawings and welding symbols, fabricates manufactured-welded parts from engineering drawing without direct supervision.
- Operates forklift to move materials and equipment as needed.
- Maintains a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
- Collaborates with other team members to meet production targets and deadlines.
- Troubleshoots and repairs/service welding equipment and tools as needed.
- Performs duties as a Qualified Weld Inspector by inspecting own welds.
- Two (2) years of Aircraft Structural Welding in the last five (5) years (Preferred).
- Read and understand engineering drawings and welding symbols, fabricate manufactured-welded parts from engineering drawing without direct supervision. Ability to read and interpret welding schematics and blueprints.
- Required to have knowledge of the materials to select the correct filler materials and shielding gas when generating the Weld Procedure Specification (WPS), and produce flight‑critical welds and assist in the development process of generating Weld Procedure Specifications as mandated by welding codes and specifications.
- Able to perform fusion welding and torch brazing for ground support equipment, ensuring the procedure is completed per the requirements of the national welding and brazing codes and specifications (American Welding Specification (AWS) D17.1M:2010 AMD1 Specification for Fusion Welding for Aerospace Applications).
- Able to weld a wide variety of materials such as aluminum, chromoly, 304 and 321 stainless steel.
- Able to use a variety of shop tools and machines shaping and preparing materials to be welded such as chop saws, band saws, drill press, grinders, etc.
- Proficiency in GTAW welding techniques.
- Experience with fabrication tasks, such as cutting, fitting, and assembling metal components.
- Mechanical knowledge and understanding of welding processes.
- Knowledge of crane and forklift operation.
- Caliper skills to ensure accurate measurement and assembly.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently.
- Experience with assembling and welding complex metal parts.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and meet production targets and deadlines.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and regulations.
- Work environment may be hot or cold depending on weather conditions.
- Must be able to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions; must be able to sit for long periods of time.
- Must be able to wear company required PPE (fresh air welding hoods).
- Frequently lift parts and equipment up to 20 pounds; occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds.
- May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts.
