Opportunity Awaits, Apply Today!As a Fisheries Technician (Biological Science Assistant) for the Eastern Oregon Fish Research Program (EOFR) in John Day, Oregon, you will conduct field sampling, laboratory analysis, and data collection activities needed to carry out life history and natural production studies of salmon and steelhead and their habitats in Northeast Oregon.
Duties include:
- Use rotary screw traps, seining, snorkeling, and electrofishing to locate and collect juvenile salmon from streams
- Follow protocols to record fish and habitat data manually and digitally
- Measure lengths and weights of juvenile salmon using computerized data collection equipment
- Tag juvenile salmon and steelhead with passive integrated transponder (PIT) tags
- Operate drift boats and jet sleds on flowing water
- Walk streams to estimate redd and adult salmon and steelhead numbers
- Photograph and age scale samples from juvenile and adult salmonids
- Sample adult carcasses, measure length, collect scales, determine sex, and assess egg retention
- Conduct habitat surveys in streams
- Maintain, repair, and order field and sampling equipment

- Data entry experience
- Natural resources survey experience
- Anyone who has or is in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences
