Chemist – Gas Chromatography

Actalent is looking for a dedicated Chemist specializing in Gas Chromatography to deliver accurate analytical services and results. The position involves routine extraction, chemical isolation, and sample clean‑up using a variety of techniques and operating laboratory equipment such as blenders, nitrogen‑ and roto‑evaporators, shakers, pH meters, and centrifuges.

• Perform routine extraction, chemical isolation, and sample clean‑up using blending, shaking, Soxhlet extraction, digestion, SPE, distillation/condensation, liquid‑liquid partitioning, and chemical derivatization.
• Operate laboratory apparatus including blenders, nitrogen‑ and roto‑evaporators, shakers, pH meters, and centrifuges.
• Independently document and prepare reagents and analytical working standards according to current SOPs.
• Extract samples and prepare reagents according to documented methods and SOPs.

• Proficiency in gas chromatography, GCMS, and mass spectrometry.
• Experience with tandem mass spectrometry and gas chromatography reaction monitoring.
• Knowledge of Agilent and Mass hunter software.
• Expertise in sample preparation and extraction techniques.
• Familiarity with chromatographic separation and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related science from a four‑year college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in inorganic and analytical chemistry.
• Troubleshooting skills in GC analysis.
• Ability to work with laboratory equipment such as balances and pipettes.

The role is based in a laboratory setting, utilizing general laboratory equipment and technologies. Employees enjoy designated free parking downtown.

Permanent position based out of Portland, OR.

Pay range: $52,000.00 per year.
