SCOPE OF POSITION: Under direction of the Head Lifeguard, provide a safe and fun swimming experience while adhering to state and local operating procedures for the pool.
EDUCATION AND
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum High School Graduate or equivalent required.
- Prior experience preferred.
- Hold current standard lifeguard, CPR, AED and first aid certifications.
- Lifeguarding experience or 1 summer/year-round at pool.
- Have a current Oregon Food Handlers Card.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Good character, integrity, and adaptability.
- Detail-oriented, Self-starter, Team Player.
- Ability to diffuse stressful situations with campers.
- Possess skills to assist in swim class general pool games and free swim sessions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate well in the English language.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards at all times.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide supervision, support, and motivation to all staff.
- Coordinate with the Nurse and leadership team for possible medical transportation as needed. May be asked to drive or accompany hospital transport of campers or staff.
- Turn in all camper-related forms promptly, such as, but not limited to, seeker forms, incident forms, safety reports, Notice of Concern, and Observation Logs.
- Provide a written weekly evaluation of Pool Watcher staff under your care, outlining their strengths and struggles, to the Head Lifeguard.
- Set a good example for campers and others including language, cleanliness, punctuality, sportsmanship, and table manners.
- Responsible for routine daily cleanliness of public and personal spaces.
- Participate and/or assist in all summer camp programs as requested e.g., chapel, staff meetings, campfire, camp-wide games, night-watch, free-time, electives, rise and shine duty, etc.
- Last-day clean-up you will be responsible for the cleanliness of all living spaces and program areas under your assigned care.
- Enforce respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff, volunteers, and campers.
- Enforce adherence to camp and Salvation Army policies and procedures.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by Leadership.
- Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures.
General Duties:
- Assist in weekly swim tests for campers on the first day of camp.
- Supervise all swimming activities during camp sessions and enforce pool rules.
- May plan and lead swim elective.
- Assist in pool games for cabin activities and other scheduled swim events.
- Help vacuum at minimum one pool each day on an alternating basis in collaboration with the Service Crew.
- Maintain cleanliness of pool house, pool deck, and surrounding areas.
- Help complete 3 water chemical tests for each pool daily in collaboration with the Service Crew.
- Log cleaning supplies and equipment, testing chemicals, and water recreation equipment.
- Participate and/or assist in all summer camp programs as required e.g., chapel, staff meetings, campfire, camp-wide games, night-watch, free-time, electives, rise and shine duty, etc.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, hike, and twist continuously for a long period.
- Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects.
