I. OVERVIEW

The Pastor of Worship & Discipleship Ministries will be a full‑time pastor responsible for leading and promoting both the worship ministries and discipleship ministries of the church. The allocation of time would be approximately 60/40, with most of their time dedicated to worship. They will work in conjunction with the senior pastor to develop and implement an overall ministry that promotes wholesome and biblically sound worship experiences with a mix of classical and contemporary worship songs that are centered on God, exalting Christ, and saturated in Scripture.

They will lead the body through prayer, exhortation, vocal and instrumental music, and multimedia for God’s glory and responsiveness to His goodness. They will give oversight to the discipleship ministries of the church to help equip God’s people for works of service.

II. QUALIFICATIONS—GENERAL
  • Be a stable, mature, and growing Christian with an exemplary personal and family life (if married).
  • Give testimony and life witness of: (1) being a committed follower of Jesus Christ, (2) exercising spiritual gifts relevant to the position, (3) ministry experience and technical expertise appropriate to the responsibilities, (4) a deep, genuine love for people and desire to equip them, (6) A calling to vocational ministry.
  • Have a sound knowledge of the Word of God and the ability to minister and execute from a biblical grid.
  • Have completed a discipline of study from an accredited Christian college or university or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ full‑time ministry experience.
  • Agree with the vision, mission, values, doctrinal position, and philosophy of Worship of Community Bible Church.
  • Have a positive recommendation from their home church.
  • Have effective organizational, communication, and recruitment skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to being a team player and servant leader.
  • Be a member of the pastoral staff and participate in staff meetings, staff retreats, and elder retreats.
  • Perform other pastoral duties, such as weddings, funerals, baptisms, communion, and counseling, under the leadership of the elders.
  • Attend educational and professional development conferences when appropriate.
  • Ability to warmly engage a multi‑generational body of believers - being sensitive to the unique needs and concerns of each demographic.
  • A commitment to excellence and quality.
  • Able to accept constructive feedback in a humble and teachable manner.
  • Willingness to put roots down in the South Deschutes County community.
  • III. QUALIFICATIONS—WORSHIP
  • Ability to read music and teach others to read music effectively for performance.
  • The necessary musical training to be able to select, evaluate, and direct corporate and special music.
  • A trained and pleasing singing voice.
  • Ability to be confident and comfortable in his own skin and have demonstrated competence in leading congregational worship.
  • Accomplished on at least one instrument (preferably piano or guitar) and able to lead with this instrument in a corporate setting.
  • Experience working with and directing worship teams, instrumental teams, choirs, and ensembles.
  • A biblical philosophy of worship which encourages the congregation to view God as the audience and themselves as the participants.
  • They must be familiar with and have an appreciation for a variety of musical styles and worship genres, with the ability to utilize the best from both the past (hymns) and the present (contemporary) in fresh arrangements.
  • They should have a working knowledge of sound, lighting, computer software, and technical equipment related to projection and video, and the ability to integrate these into the worship experience.
  • IV. RESPONSIBILITIES—WORSHIP
  • The Pastor of Worship and Discipleship will work with the Senior Pastor to oversee the worship service and music ministry for adults, youth, and children.
  • Facilitate a sense of excitement and enthusiasm among those involved in worship by actively training and recruiting new musicians and instrumentalists to participate in the worship team.
