Special Education paraprofessionals assists a student with significant special needs under the direction of a certified teacher. Paraprofessionals generally work in an inclusionary setting (i.e. least restrictive environment). A 1:1 paraprofessional will work directly with the special education teacher and a single student within the severe needs classroom. This may involve medical, behavioral and learning support.
Required Duties and Responsibilities- Assisting a student with significant special needs in achieving academic success
- Working with a student with significant special needs who may be aggressive or disruptive in class
- Behavior support which includes physical management (training provided upon hire)
- Personal care
• Social integration
• Consultation and collaboration with Special Education and Regular Education Teachers as well as related service staff - Any other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 year associate's degree or 2 years of verifiable college course work (48 semester hours) OR the ability to successfully pass the Work Keys proficiency test
- Licensed as registered Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Colorado Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certifications - or ability to certify
- Ability to become CPI Restraint Trained
- Preference given to individuals who have taken classes in education and/or successfully demonstrated their ability to work with young children
- Ability to lift 30 lbs.
- Valid Colorado Driver's License
