Environmental Organizer – Student PIRGs

As a Campus Organizer, you’ll be at the forefront of building a brighter future for all of us—protecting our remaining wildlife and wild places, tackling the plastic waste crisis, eliminating electronic waste and ending planned obsolescence, and more. We believe the best place to start making the changes we want, and to develop the leaders we need, is on college campuses.

We’re hiring campus organizers to work on over 100 college campuses to help students get organized, mobilized and energized and start building a greener, healthier future for all of us.

Base Pay Range

$38,250.00/yr - $44,474.00/yr

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruiting and inspiring hundreds of students to take action.
  • Helping students run strategic campaigns. Recruit and train students to run campaigns such as eliminating single‑use plastics, protecting wildlife, making college more affordable, and more.
  • Building a coalition. Work with student volunteers and interns to build a diverse, invested coalition of organizations.
  • Training students to be effective social change leaders, using skills such as generating grassroots support and coordinating lobby days and news conferences.
  • Building a strong, sustainable, student‑funded and student‑run organization on campus by fundraising, building relationships with key players, and establishing our organizational brand.
  • Running a citizen outreach office during the summer, recruiting and leading a team of canvassers to fundraise for important issues and build grassroots support for key campaigns. You may be assigned to a different office location for the summer and should be flexible to move.
  • Build the movement by recruiting volunteers, interns, and more organizers to work with us.
  • This position requires exercising discretion and independent judgment in making decisions in matters of significance.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to environmental, public interest, and/or student issues, and a track record of leadership.
  • Goal‑driven and results‑oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Driven, works well with all kinds of people, and isn’t afraid to get outside comfort zones.
  • Passionate about making positive change, eager to work hard every day even for incremental steps.

The target annual compensation range for this position is $38,250 - $44,474 and depends on location, education, and experience. Student PIRGs offers an excellent benefits package: medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents; paid sick time (60–72 hours/year depending on location); vacation time (accruing 10 days over year 1, increasing to 15 days over year 2 and 20 days over year 3 and thereafter);
