LEARNING DISABILITIES SPECIALIST (DSPS):
Adjunct Non-Classroom Instructor POOL (college credit)
Major Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Director, DSPS, provide assessment for CalWORKs clients with possible learning disabilities.
- Perform assessment for learning disabilities using the California Community College Eligibility Model; evaluate clients’ academic strengths and weaknesses; discuss test interpretation and recommended accommodations with clients.
- Consult with CalWORKs personnel regarding implementation of accommodations and strategies for potential work; maintain related records for completed assessments and services provided to clients.
- Represent DSPS at meetings and District functions as needed; perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions.
Applicants must show evidence of meeting the following minimum qualifications:
- The minimum qualifications for providing credit specialized instruction for students with learning disabilities:
Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in learning disabilities, special education, education, psychology, educational psychology, or rehabilitation counseling; AND fifteen (15) semester units of upper division or graduate study in Learning Disabilities; OR - Possession of a California Community College Disabled Student Programs & Services Credential with a specialization in Learning Disabilities that is valid for life; OR
- The equivalent; AND
- Successful completion of the California Community College Chancellor’s Office “Learning Disabilities Eligibility Model Training.”
The successful candidate shall demonstrate:
- Completion of the Chancellor’s Office “Learning Disabilities Eligibility Model Training” OR verified professional training on assessment instruments (WAIS III/IV, Woodcock Johnson III, WIAT II).
- Recent experience administering and interpreting WAIS IV, Woodcock Johnson III, WIAT II in an educational setting.
- Knowledge and application of work and instructional strategies for students with learning disabilities; ability to work in an interdisciplinary team; knowledge and application of technology for assessment, recordkeeping, and instruction.
- Effective written and interpersonal communication; experience with diverse student backgrounds; ability to work independently; strong organizational skills.

Foreign degrees require evaluation by a NACES member or ACEI; a copy must be submitted with the online application.
Licenses/Certificates/CredentialsCalifornia Community College Disabled Student Programs & Services Credential with a specialization in Learning Disabilities (valid for life) if possessed; and a certificate of completion for the Learning Disabilities Eligibility Model Training if applicable.

Conditions of EmploymentNewly hired faculty must submit official transcripts and pay a fingerprint processing fee. All new SDCCD employees must have a Tuberculosis exam, renewed every 4 years. Employees may be transferred to any site at the option of the Chancellor.
